5 New Ways To Support Your Wellbeing Post Lockdown

The last year has taught us how important it is to guard our space and mental wellbeing.

If you feel yours had taken a few too many knocks and blows recently then firstly, you are not alone. A global pandemic is not something ANYONE could have prepared for and we’ll be the first to admit it’s thrown a lot of things off-kilter. Routines, exercise habits, eating schedules, social interactions, work-life, finances, family dynamics and loss to name just a few… all of which massively impact our mental wellbeing.

With the most terrifying part of this rollercoaster hopefully behind us, it’s time to start rebuilding our lives step by step. For some, jumping back into normality will be a walk in the park, for others, it will take small steps to build confidence. No matter how the past year has gone for you, putting your focus on your mental wellbeing should be a priority, whether that’s establishing mindful practices, journaling your thoughts or even tapping into hobbies that fill you with joy again.

If you’re not sure where to start, see our 5 new tips to help boost your mental wellbeing as you return to some "normalcy".

Calm App

With the mission to make the world happier and healthier, Calm App is the #1 app for Sleep, Meditation and Relaxation. Calm creates unique audio content that strengthens mental fitness and tackles some of the biggest mental health challenges of today: stress, anxiety, insomnia, and depression. The most popular feature on Calm is a 10-minute meditation called, 'The Daily Calm,' that explores a fresh mindful theme and inspiring concept each day. Calm also contains some 100 Sleep Stories (bed-time stories for grown-ups), plus sleep music, meditation lessons, nature sounds, Calm Masterclasses delivered by world experts, and more.

The heart of Calm is digital but Calm is also expanding offline in various ways that bring more peace, clarity, and perspective into people’s busy lives. It has partnered with Penguin to publish the Calm Book; developed a natural sleep aid called Sleep Mist and has plans for so much more.

Keep a Journal

Writing in a journal is a simple way to identify what’s stressing you out and to get troubling thoughts out of your mind. Writing can help you process how you’re feeling and facilitate brain-storming actionable steps to help you cope with problems and meet challenges.

Write in a stress journal to help you see patterns and common themes, such as by answering these questions:

What likely caused your stress?
How did you feel physically and emotionally?
How did you act in response?
What made you feel better or worse?
You can also use your journal to write down things you’re grateful for, and to help you manage your time. This way you don’t jam pack your schedule and feel overwhelmed, and you make time for happiness-boosting activities aside from work, such as relationships, relaxation, hobbies and fun.

Try to schedule in time each day for something fun, calming, creative and that makes you laugh.

Gardening

We know that nature nurtures so why not try and get your hands dirty in the garden!

'Gardening adds years to your life and life to your years.’

Whoever came up with this quote was definitely on to something. Gardens are special peaceful spaces with restorative qualities that can work wonders when we are stressed and under pressure.
While gardens can be relaxing, they can also be places where our efforts result in a real sense of achievement, boosting confidence and self-esteem.
There’s also good evidence that just looking at a green space has positive effects on people’s mental health, helping them relax and de-stress.
